Telegram updates in July 2026: Communities, editor and more

Telegram is beginning to organize communities that already use several groups, channels and bots. Its July 14 update also improves content publishing and bot interactions inside groups.

Telegram is bringing together pieces that previously worked separately.

A Telegram community rarely stays in one chat. It may have a channel for updates, a group for conversation and a bot for access or support. Each space has a purpose, but users see them all as part of the same project.

The July update reflects that reality. Communities brings those spaces under one name. The new editor helps people publish clearer content, while private bot messages reduce noise in groups. An improved GIF search rounds out the update with a more everyday change.

Telegram Communities

A channel, several groups and a bot can belong to the same community.

How it is organized

Communities creates a layer above individual chats. For example, an academy can bring together its announcements channel, general student group, course-specific groups and support bot. Each chat works as usual, while their connection becomes clear.

A community can take up one place in the chat list. Tapping it reveals the linked groups, channels and bots. People who prefer to see every chat separately can keep the familiar view and open the grouping from an arrow.

What admins control

Admins decide which chats the whole community can see. A general channel can be available to everyone, while a team group or a space for specific members can remain hidden.

They can also decide who adds new chats. Telegram supports member collaboration or admin control over new additions.

A step toward Discord?

Both products bring different spaces together under one name. Telegram takes a lighter approach by grouping chats that keep their own members, permissions and settings.

For a community already using several groups, channels and bots, this first version adds order and helps users find each space.

Rich text editor

Channels can publish guides and articles that are easier to read.

The problem. A long message becomes difficult to follow when it mixes explanations, steps, images and links.

The update. The editor supports headings, lists, quotes, tables, code blocks and media. Telegram allows up to 32,768 characters in one post.

Where it helps. It is especially useful for channels that publish analysis, lessons, documentation or newsletters.

Availability. The editor is available to Telegram Premium users. The account responsible for publishing can use it to prepare content for the whole channel.

Ephemeral bot messages

A bot can answer one person without filling the group with messages.

The problem. When several members consult a bot, confirmations, errors and menus become mixed with the group conversation.

The update. The bot can show its reply only to the person who made the request. The user gets the information inside the group while everyone else continues the conversation as usual.

Where it helps. It suits support bots, AI assistants, action confirmations and personal menus. Developers will need to add this option to their bots.

GIF search

Finding the right GIF should take less time.

What changes. Telegram expands its search to more than 350 million GIFs across 36 languages.

How it works. Search uses Telegram's own index, built from frequently shared public GIFs. It is a simple improvement to an everyday action.
